Gone But Not Forgotten

It is with a very sad and heavy heart we announce the passing of Kane, one of the Poetry cougars that arrived at In-Sync Exotics one month ago.

When we first met Kane in Poetry, we noticed he could not walk properly.  Watching Kane fall over 3 times, and was then forced to crawl over to the water bowl because he was too weak to walk, was devastating to all of us.  This poor baby arrived heat exhausted, dehydrated and vitamin deficient. We believe that sometime before Kane arrived, he suffered a small seizure or stroke resulting in facial and leg movement changes on the left side of his body.  The vet believes 10 days after he arrived, Kane experienced another stroke or seizure during the night, that may have resulted in him aspirating on undigested food or saliva causing fluid to entered Kane’s lungs resulting to him developing pneumonia.  And if that wasn’t enough for this poor cat to endure, we learned about a week ago, during a full body exam at the veterinarian’s, that approximately six months ago something terrible happened to Kane resulting in his right leg to be completely shattered.  Unfortunately, Kane did not receive medical attention after this devastating event, so his bones were left to mend themselves.

A couple of days ago our vet diagnosed Kane with terminal lung cancer.  The cancer was extremely aggressive and the vet believed he only had a few days left with us.

Last night around 11:00pm, Kane suffered a seizure that lasted about two minutes.  With Kane's favorite animal caretaker and In-Sync Exotics’ director present, Kane slipped away quietly into the night. 

We are so grateful we were able to be there for Kane during his time in need.  He did not die alone, unnamed in Poetry, Texas; instead he passed away in the company of In-Sync Exotics friends who loved and cared for him very much.  He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. 

He was Kane, a beautiful cougar, who shared with us the important message—that we should all live our lives as if it was our last with those who love us unconditionally.

Another Poetry Success Update!

We have an update on one of the former Poetry big cats!  

For those who have been following the Poetry 20 big cat rescue, you may recall that In-Sync Exotics solely found homes for all the cats, including the 4 cougars and 4 lions that now call In-Sync home.  It was a long and arduous mission to save and place these animals, but we are happy to report the last of the big cats has found a forever home! 

Abel, the cougar, will be moving to Safe Haven Rescue Zoo by way of transportation provided by Big Cat Rescue! In-Sync Exotics wants to thank Big Cat Rescue for volunteering to transport Abel to his new home in Nevada. We anticipate Abel’s departure to take place tomorrow (July 28, 2011) and we expect him to arrive at Safe Haven Rescue Zoo on Friday.

We wish we had room to keep Abel; however, we are limited on the number of cougars we can take in due to space limitation.   All of us here at In-Sync Exotics will miss Abel very much.  It will be  a better sweet moment for us, as we say goodbye to Abel, for it seems just like yesterday when we rescued him and the other cats from the old barn!

We cannot thank our supporters enough for helping us rescue and relocate these magnificent cats.  We are so happy we were instrumental in giving these cats a second lease on life!

Abel is now on his way to Nevada. As we bid him a tearful good-bye, we pray he has a wonderful life at his new home!

Former Leona 6 Tigers Love Their New Pool!

It was another scorching day at In-Sync Exotics this last weekend; with temperatures hovering above the century mark once again.  And wouldn’t you know it, it turned out to be a perfect day for the tigers to enjoy the cool, refreshing tiger pool!

A small crowd that braved the summer heat over the weekend had the opportunity to watch the cats’ reactions as they tested out the pool for the first time. 

We had hoped Grumpy would be the first one to shoot out of his quarters to check out the pool, but unfortunately, Grump decided to cat nap instead.

So we turned to Kazuri for his reaction to the pool.  As soon as the gate opened, Kazuri ran straight for the pool.  Interesting enough, this large tiger seemed a little intimated by the water at first.  He sniffed the pool, he walked around the pool, and then he sniffed it some more.

We were finally able to entice Kazuri into the pool with some chicken drumsticks that were placed on the pool’s edge.  When Kazuri “accidently” knocked one of the drumsticks into the pool, he bravely jumped in to retrieve the item. Did Kazuri recapture the elusive chicken leg?

Next to test the pool was Abrams. 

When Abrams first entered the playground, we thought for sure he would run straight to the pool.  Instead, Abrams checked everything (and I mean everything) out before approaching the pool.   Once Abrams’ painfully long examination of the new “item” on the playground was completed, he finally decided to enter the pool.

Bravely he walked around in the water, hissing and splashing around in the deep end until his wet tail smacked the water, causing him to quickly vacant the pool.  Silly tiger!  Thinking the waterfall looked a little safer; Abrams decided to climb up to the top of the waterfall and posed for pictures. What a handsome tiger!

As to Apollo, well, he simply ignored the pool for about an hour until he decided it was time to cool off.  He slowly walked into the pool and simply laid down in the shallow end.  Apollo used to live in In-Sync Exotic’s “Tiger Country” and so his former playground had a pool; needless to say, his reaction to the new pool was considerably low-key in comparison to the other tigers.

Interesting enough, Stryker loves water from the hose, but was terrified of the pool!  This big cat would not even approach the pool until he was enticed to check it out.  After staring at the pool for a few moments, Stryker decided to back away slowly from the water’s edge, just in case it decided to jump out at him!  We figure he will eventually learn to love the pool as much as Abrams does now.  Baby steps, Stryker, baby steps.

Grump continued to nap through the entire event…

Well, that concludes the description of the tigers’ adventure with their new pool.  We would like to thank everyone who contributed towards the Leona 6’s pool, honored for Brooks who passed away earlier this year.  We believe Brooks is still looking after the former Leona cats, as they enjoy their new pool that was built especially for them!
