A Unique Camp-Out at In-Sync Exotics!

What do get when you mix about 30 animal-loving volunteers with tents and tigers? A camp-out at In-Sync Exotics, of course!  Every year, our volunteers come out to In-Sync Exotics for a pot luck dinner and then stay overnight, listening to the sounds of the lions roaring and cats catterwalling throughout the night.

Early in the evening, after everyone pitched their tents, it was time to enjoy some volunteer camaraderie; sampling the dishes brought especially for the big potluck dinner.  But there was no rest for our happy campers for after dinner it was time to feed the animals.  You never want to keep a big cat waiting for his dinner--even on camp-out night!

At the end of the evening, into the wee early morning hours, the volunteers took a tour of the sanctuary and then spent some quality time together sharing lots cat stories and laughs before retiring for the evening.  Many of the volunteers have never seen or heard the animals at night, so this was a special treat for them.  In-sync Exotics comes alive at night as many of the big cats like to play--splashing in tubs or pools or chasing their enrichment balls.

Eventually, everyone settle-in to the sounds of the lions' serenade.

The volunteer camp-out is a much anticipated event each year as it gives our volunteers a chance to meet new members of the Team In-Sync, and it gives other team members a change to become reacquainted with some of our long-time volunteers they may not have seen for quite some time.

Ever thought of joining Team In-Sync?  We run almost entirely on volunteer labor and assistance is always welcome! There are many ways you can help, including, but not limited to:
  • ·         Washing Bowls and Buckets
  • ·         Cleaning enclosures
  • ·         Preparing animal diets
  • ·         Helping with special events
  • ·         Fund raising
  • ·         Building new enclosures
Age requirements:
Age 13-15 - may volunteer with a responsible adult and with parental consent.
Age 16-17 - must have parental consent.

Washing, cleaning, and preparing animal meals may not sound like glamorous work, but the satisfaction you'll feel after volunteering at In-Sync Exotics and the memories you will make with our other volunteers as you care for our wild ones, are simply priceless.  If you are ready to make a difference in the lives of our tigers, lions, cougars, etc., please click HERE for details on our volunteer program!  For more information about our volunteer program, please email Chemyn Reaney. Thank you!

Animal Updates!

Last month, you may recall our posting on Franklin, one of our domestic cats, went to the vet because he was feeling poorly.  Franklin's blood test results indicated that he had a parasitic infection in his blood that may have been responsible for the inflammation of his heart.

Good news! Franklin's vet has given him a clean bill of health--no more parasites in his blood and there is no inflammation of his heart!  Franklin does have a slight heart murmur and will remain on medication for the rest of his life.  Thankfully, it is only a slight heart murmur and it will not limit our Franklin's ability to play, eat, and rest!

Can you tell what is missing from our bobcat, Jasper?

If you guessed "his collar is missing," you'd be correct!

We are very happy to report that the cheetahs' "Fast Track Habitat" construction is proceeding right on schedule.  All the main posts are in the ground and we are now assembling the top rails.  We'll keep you informed of our progress!

We hope you enjoyed today's blog posting!  Let us know what you think by clicking on one of the reaction buttons below and then don't forget to share today's posting with family, friends, and co-workers!  Thank you!

  1. I have had the honor of spending the night at another facility. Two tigers, a cougar, a leopard, a bobcat, a lynx and an ocelot are housed outside of this guesthouse. Lions and 200+ other felines are within walking distance. The lions sang me to sleep. It is an experience I intend to repeat each year on my birthday as long as I live in Indiana.
